What is a Boolean Operator?

Boolean Operators are simple words (AND, OR, NOT or AND NOT) used as conjunctions to combine or exclude keywords in a search, resulting in more focused and productive results.

Boolean Operators

Boolean operators refer to the logical relationship among keywords. Use Boolean operators to narrow, broaden, or exclude words from your search results.

BOOLEAN LOGIC consists of three logical operators: AND, OR, NOT.

AND (Narrow results)

Search Statement Example: Fluid AND Electrolyte Imbalance

OR (Broaden results)

Search Statement Example: Oral Lesions OR Ulcers

NOT (Exclude words from results)

Search Statement Example: Women NOT MEN
