Course Reserves

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Should I Place Items on Reserve?

  • To ensure that intensively used reading assignments for a class are available to all students in the class.
  • To enable students in the class to access assigned article readings on a 24/7 basis, if available online.
  • To be sure that materials assigned are in compliance with copyright regulations.

What Kinds of Materials can be Placed on Reserve?

  • Books
    • from the Cade Library collection
    • owned by the faculty member (Although the book will be returned to you at the end of the semester, your book may be stamped/marked for tracking/security purposes.)
  • Media (movies, sound recordings)
    • from the Cade Library collection
    • owned by the faculty member. (Item must be in its original packaging. No reproductions will be accepted.)
  • Journal articles *
  • Book chapters *

* Items will be available 24/7 via your course through the Library’s Electronic Reserves in Moodle.

How Long Does it Take to Process a Request?

  • Items already available at Cade Library normally can be processed within 2-3 business days.
  • If items are not available at Cade Library (including new books), please allow 7-10 working days for the library to obtain materials.

Remember: The beginning of the semester is very busy and delays may occur. Requesting your course and materials four weeks in advance will help avoid delays.

What if an item I need for reserve is not available at the J.B.Cade Library?

  • If you request an article that is not available in our print or electronic collections, the library staff will make all efforts to acquire a copy of the article on your behalf through interlibrary loan.  Interlibrary loan requests can be made using the following link: Interlibrary Loan Request
  • If you request a book that is not available in our collections, and funds are available, the library staff may be able to order it for your course. After your course concludes and you no longer need the book for Reserve, the book will be placed in the library's collection.

Instructions about how students may access electronic reserves from the library’s webpage can be found under the Useful Links tab. (Found on the left side of the page)

Then navigate to the link titled How to Access Electronic Reserves in MOODLE

Students will need to use their Moodle log in to access the site.
